It’s been a little while, so, where did I leave off?
Last week was Core Course Week, meaning I spent a week with my core course (New Media and Changing Communities) doing cultural excursions and academic visits, plus eating excellent (free!) food. Coming into the week, I didn’t have any real “friends” in my core course, and I was afraid I wouldn’t have any by the end. Usually, field trips aren’t fun; I anticipated a long five days of boredom, exhaustion, and dehydration. Luckily, DIS surpassed my expectations and pleasantly surprised me.
I won’t go over the week’s itinerary in detail, but I will mention some highlights. On Monday, my class had dinner at Eatery Social, where we devoured nachos, three types of tacos, and churros with vanilla ice cream and mango sauce. Tuesday was my favorite day; we tried VR and ate four times, three of which were covered by DIS. Tuesday was also the day when I actually made friends in my core course. We spent the evening at Boulebar, which means Bocce bar in English. Wednesday’s highlight was Arken, a modern art museum, where I couldn’t help myself and bought a sketchbook as if I need any more stationery products. Thursday wasn’t that interesting, but I did get to try Mother pizza (why are all my favorite things food-related?). The best part of Friday – and possibly of the whole week – was a Flodeboller cooking class at Social Foodies. To top it all off, the class was taught by two charming, attractive Danes.
Since the last time I wrote, I’ve been to the movies twice (1917 and The Lighthouse), visited Bakken and Dyrehavn, bought myself a pair of clogs, and eaten at Gasoline Grill (which serves the world’s 27th best burger). I’ve also had a number of existential crises, including – but not limited to – having to cut out my nose ring, doubting my creativity, debating with myself on grad school, and feeling hyper-aware of the weight I’ve gained within the past month (and telling myself that abroad pounds don’t count).
For every con, there’s also a pro. I found my new favorite store in Copenhagen, called Notre Dame (think Terrain by Anthropologie), and I have some fun trips booked (hello Italy, Amsterdam, and Barcelona!). Most of all, I’m continuing to learn about myself. I have constant epiphanies. I’ve learned that I’m far more introverted than I’d thought previously, that I don’t really enjoy drinking, and that – most of all – I’m not like the other girls (iykyk). I also have the phrase “stranger danger” tattooed into my brain, which is why I’m so adamantly against dating apps. It’s good to be self-aware.
I’ve officially hit the one-month mark, which means I have three months more. May 8th seems like an abstract concept, a distant future, but then again, so did studying abroad.
